The root of the chord is always the easiest to find because its name is in the name of the chord!
The root of a Gb Suspended Chord (suspended 4th) chord is Gb
B
The fourth of a Gb Suspended Chord (suspended 4th) chord is B. The fourth is up five half-steps from the Root. The fourth, which is up a half-step from the third, is often used in place of the third in what's called a "suspension".
Finding B from Gb step by step:
- Start on: Gb
- Step 1: move up to G
- Step 2: move up to Ab
- Step 3: move up to B double flat
- Step 4: move up to Bb
- Step 5: Land on B
Db
The fifth of a Gb Suspended Chord (suspended 4th) chord is Db. The fifth is down five half-steps from the Root -- but it's easier to just think of it as a variation on the fifth. Once you know your fifths, the flat fifth and sharp fifth are a lot easier to find.
Finding Db from Gb step by step:
- Start on: Gb
- Step 1: move down to F
- Step 2: move down to Fb
- Step 3: move down to Eb
- Step 4: move down to D
- Step 5: Land on Db
